Welcome to the official website of Coalburn I.O.R Pipe Band. The band was established in 1894 and is based in the village of Coalburn, South Lanarkshire.
Coalburn is easily reachable via the M74 and A70 and is only 20 minutes from Glasgow and 40 minutes from Edinburgh. The band currently attracts players from Stirling, Lanark, West Lothian and Falkirk areas as well as all surrounding local areas.
Coalburn I.O.R currently has two competing bands in Grades 3A and 4A and represents the Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch of the RSPBA. Both bands are overseen by Pipe Major Colin Williams and Leading Drumming Willie Kerr
The Grade 3 band has been around for many years and completed a fine 2012 season as Cowal Champions. The 2013 season seen the Grade 3 band make an excellant start as British Champions in May.
The Grade 4 band was created in 2011 as a feeder band to allow learners and less experienced players the opportunity to compete and naturally progress to a higher level, the band competed at their first championship at Cowal in 2011 and were delighted to finish in 3rd place. In 2012 the Grade 4 band had their first full competition season and were crowned British, European and Cowal Champions 2012 as well as finishing in 2nd place at the World pipe Band Championships in August. The band have been promoted for the 2013 season to Grade 4A.
Both bands made excellant progress during the 2012 season picking up 20 first placings. You can keep a track of the bands results on our results page.
The band welcome both learners of all ages as well as experienced players and have an open door policy so please feel free to drop by our practices if interested in joining.
